Solar training programs in California are much sought after as the solar industry grows faster than the trained workforce.
However, many independent organizations now offer solar training classes and so do many local colleges and universities. As there is no national certification system for solar installer, each state has a different definition for a certified solar installer.
A well respected solar training program in California is the Solar Living Institute (SLI), and the relatively new Sierra College: the only community college in Northern California to offer a Solar Energy Technician certificate program.
Non-profit SLI has been running quality solar training classes since 1998 and offers workshops and bootcamps in addition to online webinars and training. SLI is located a couple hours northwest of Sacramento in Hopland, California.
Situated slightly more north in Rocklin, California, Sierra College started solar training in 2009 and have quickly gained a good reputation.
California Community College Chancellor’s Office recently awarded Sierra College a $470,000 grant to develop a training program for solar installers. This year, the school received another $205,000 in grants to develop energy-saving practices that manufacturers can adopt.
Sierra’s comprehensive program starts with the basics and leads into more technical aspects of solar. If you are interested in Sierra College’s solar training course, detailed course descriptions online can help determine whether the program is the right one for you.
